Sadiq Ali is a retired educator from Hartford (Connecticut) Public Schools. In 1995, he founded the Benjamin E. Mays Institute, a 7th and 8th grades all-male academy within Hartford’s schools. Even though retired, Mr. Ali continues to engage in dissolving the educational plight of young black males. In May of 2015, Ali conducted a workshop at James Madison University to Harrisonburg (Virginia) Public Schools teachers on how to support young black males in the classroom with disabilities. In July of 2015, he published his book, “Benjamin E. Mays Institute: Educating Young Black Males.” Mr. Ali is a board member of the Greater Opportunity II Board of Directors, a group which is preparing a summer boarding school initiative for Hartford, Connecticut high school males. Ali is also a board member of the Richmond Urban Collective, an organization which will establish the Metropolitan Preparatory Academy, an all-male charter school which will be located in Richmond, Virginia.
